Build Technology That Powers Sports Data and Analytics
The sports industry depends on fast, reliable, and accurate data. Behind every real-time insight, performance dashboard, model-serving application, and analytics product is a sophisticated technology ecosystem designed to handle demanding workloads.
In this role, you will help build next-generation sports data and analytics technology. You will contribute across the software development lifecycle: from technical design and implementation to testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
This is a hands-on position with meaningful collaboration across Engineering, Product, and Data Science teams. You will have the opportunity to influence how software solutions are designed while helping deliver dependable systems that support data-driven products.
The ideal candidate is not only comfortable writing strong code but also curious about how systems perform at scale. You should enjoy breaking down complex problems, designing practical solutions, and working with teammates to turn business and product requirements into reliable technology.

What You’ll Do
As a Senior Software Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining scalable software solutions
- Translating business and product requirements into clear technical designs
- Building and maintaining APIs, WebSocket functionality, and system integrations
- Developing cloud-based applications using AWS services, including EC2, ECS, DynamoDB, Application Load Balancer, and Systems Manager
- Working with real-time and distributed technologies such as NATS PubSub, Apache Ignite, and Tinybird
- Writing clean, maintainable code aligned with engineering best practices
- Participating in automated testing, code reviews, and technical discussions
- Collaborating with Data Science teams on feature pipelines, model-serving APIs, and data integrations
- Using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and Claude Code throughout the software development lifecycle
- Troubleshooting complex technical issues and driving continuous improvement across systems and processes
The role is especially well suited to an engineer who can move comfortably between application code, cloud infrastructure, APIs, distributed systems, and team-based problem solving.
A Standout Technology Environment
This opportunity offers exposure to a modern and technically diverse stack.
Java and object-oriented design
Strong Java experience is central to the role. You should understand object-oriented design principles and be able to create code that is scalable, maintainable, testable, and aligned with long-term product goals.
Ruby APIs and WebSocket solutions
The position also involves developing APIs and WebSocket solutions using Ruby. Experience working with real-time communication and system integrations will help you contribute to applications that deliver timely data and responsive user experiences.
AWS cloud development
You will work with several AWS services, including:
- EC2
- ECS
- DynamoDB
- Application Load Balancer
- Systems Manager
Experience developing and supporting cloud-based applications will be important as you help build systems designed for scalability, availability, and operational reliability.
Real-time and distributed technologies
The role includes technologies such as NATS PubSub, Apache Ignite, and Tinybird. These tools support fast data movement, distributed processing, and real-time analytics workflows.
Candidates with experience in event-driven architectures, messaging systems, in-memory data platforms, streaming data, or other distributed technologies may find their background especially relevant.

Your Collaboration Will Matter
Technical ability is essential, but this role also calls for strong communication and collaboration skills.
You will work with professionals across Engineering, Product, and Data Science. That means you will need to explain technical decisions clearly, ask effective questions, and collaborate on solutions that balance performance, maintainability, business needs, and user impact.
The successful candidate will be comfortable participating in:
- Agile planning and delivery
- Technical design discussions
- Code reviews
- Testing and quality initiatives
- Cross-functional problem solving
- Troubleshooting and continuous improvement
Experience with Git, Bitbucket, Jira, and Agile methodologies is required.
Required Qualifications
To be considered, candidates should have:
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field with at least four years of software engineering experience, or six or more years of equivalent professional experience
- Strong Java development experience
- Knowledge of object-oriented design principles
- Experience with automated testing, Groovy, and Spock
- Experience developing APIs and WebSocket solutions using Ruby
- Strong AWS and cloud application development experience
- Experience with real-time or distributed systems, including NATS PubSub and Apache Ignite
- Experience with Git, Bitbucket, Jira, and Agile methodologies
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
- The ability to work in a hybrid environment in Overland Park, KS
- Residence within 30 miles of Overland Park
- Green Card work authorization
Preferred Qualifications
The following experience would be a strong advantage:
- Integrating machine learning or Data Science solutions into production applications
- Supporting feature pipelines or model-serving APIs
- Using AI-assisted development tools in professional software engineering workflows
- Prompt engineering
- Agentic coding workflows
- Applying AI tools thoughtfully to improve software quality, productivity, and efficiency
AI-assisted development experience is particularly relevant because this role will use tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and Claude Code throughout the software development lifecycle. Candidates do not need to view these tools as a replacement for engineering judgment. Instead, they should understand how to use them responsibly to accelerate development, improve quality, and support better technical outcomes.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
Many senior engineering roles focus on only one part of the development process. This position offers broader ownership and exposure across application development, cloud services, real-time systems, analytics, and data science collaboration.
You will have the chance to:
- Work on technology supporting sports data and analytics
- Solve complex engineering problems with real-time and distributed systems
- Build cloud-native applications using AWS
- Collaborate with Data Science professionals
- Help integrate machine learning capabilities into production systems
- Apply emerging AI-assisted development practices
- Contribute to technical decisions that affect scalable products
